Mitomycin C is a purple liquid and it is used to treat various types of cancers. Mitomycin C does not allow the cancerous cells to divide since Mitomycin C sticks the DNA of the cells together. This drug can be given intravenously (into the vein), through a central line and also directly into the bladder through a catcher. Mitomycin C can cause extensive damage if it escapes from the vein. It is so important that if the patient notices any redness or swelling it is very important to contact the physician immediately.

Other side effects of Mitomycin C may include:

  • A higher risk of infections.
  • Fatigue
  • Problems with breathing/Tiredness/Weakness.
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Bruising /Bleeding
  • Hair thinning
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Bladder inflammation
  • Sore mouth
  • Skin rash
  • Darker nails
  • Kidney problems
  • Liver changes
  • Loss of fertility
  • Amenorrhea (Absence of menstrual periods)
